ReFashion - Plaid Skirt (Upsizing)

10:35 AM

Marcia, Marcia, Marcia
This weekend at Goodwill I found this amazing plaid, polyester skirt.  It looks like someone's home ec project straight out of 1964.  I LOVE this skirt and names it Marcia, Marcia, Marcia.

Based on it's condition I would be willing to bet that it's been living in an attic for the last 40 years.

The color is AMAZING!

Plaid polyester-tastic!

The only little problem with this homemade beauty is that it's too small for me.   Not to worry though, i'm an old pro at upsizing skirts!

Skirt with a side zipper

This skirt had a side zipper and was partially lined.  If it was made of wool or scratchy material I would have saved the lining.  This polyester beauty was soft, so I left the lining out.

Cut off the too small parts

The original design was for this to be an ankle length skirt.  Cutting off the top left plenty of fabric for a tea length shirt.  I made the cut just below the zipper so that I didn't have to use a seam ripper to remove it.

Elastic waist

I folded over the top and made an elastic waistband.

All done!
It's raining outside today.  When the weather clears i'll take some nice bright outdoor pix.   That didn't stop me from wearing Marcia, Marcia, Marcia to work today!!!

I've done other Plus size Refashions.  This was my first upsize refashion.

I'll be checking out your site a lot. It's just the kind of information I'm constantly looking at on the net as I am a DIYer too.

  2. This works with dresses as well: I outgrew my fave vintage dress. "Shortened" it at the waist, and added that chunk of fabric to widen the bodice and the sleeves.
    Being short pays!

    1. Agreed! There are major upsides to being a shorty!
