Easy Homemade Pop Tart
Homemade Pop Tarts are SUPER easy and can be made with items that you probably have in your kitchen.

Homemade Pop Tarts
(makes approximately 16)

For this recipe you will need:
2 - Refrigerator pie crusts (I use the ones in the box, but homemade is fine too)
2-3 Tablespoons melted butter
Your favorite Jelly or Jam
granulated sugar (optional)

Rolling Pin
Pastry brush

Unroll 1 pie crust.  Use the rolling pin to flatten and thin out the crust.  Roll it to approx 1/4" thickness.  Be careful not to roll the crust too thin.

Refrigerator Pie Crusts

Roll the crust to 1/4" thick

Now trim the rounded edges of the crust to make it square(ish).

Save the pieces you cut off.

Now cut the crust into 8 squares

Add 1 - 1 1/2 teaspoons of your favorite jelly or jam to one end of each square.

Brush butter around the edge of each tart.

Butter all edges
Fold the crust over to form parts.

Some tarts won't be perfect squares.  Don't worry about it.  We'll fix that in a minute.  Use a fork to seal the edges of the tarts.

Place tarts on a lined or lightly greased baking sheet.  You can line the pan using parchment paper or a silpat.  Otherwise a light coat of oil, baking spray or butter is just fine.

Place on a lined sheet
Now fix your incomplete tarts.

Brush butter on crust scrap

Brush butter on the back of one of your crust scraps.

Place the buttered piece on the incomplete tart.  Keep adding buttered crust scraps until you have a completely square tart.

Now use a fork to seal the edges of the tart.

Trim the tart
Use a knife to trim the tart to a square.  Next prick the edges of the seam line to help seal the crust.

Brush the tops of the tarts with butter and sprinkle with sugar (optional).

Brush the tops with melted butter and sprinkle with granulated sugar.

Prick the top of each tart.  This will help vent heat during the baking process.

Prick the tops

For best results freeze the tarts for 30-60 minutes.  Then bake in a 400 degree oven for 7-10 minutes.  You can bake the tarts right away (without freezing).  Frozen tarts loose less filling in the baking process.

Cool completely and enjoy!  The filling will stay VERY HOT for a long time.  Make sure they are well cooled before serving!
